Action Pact stages blood drive Jan. 16 The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday, January 16 at Action Pact, 510 Tebeau Street.
Type O negative blood donors and those giving platelets are especially urged to give to keep critical blood products on the shelves for patients in need.

Kidney Charity opens fundraiser The Okefenokee Kidney Charity, Inc. holds its 14th Annual fundraiser through February.
The members of Big Bethel Freewill Baptist and Greater St. Paul Churches partner with the Okefenokee Kidney Organization to seek donations during the period. All donations will be used to benefit kidney and kidney-related disease patients.
The Okefenokee Kidney Charity, Inc. serves kidney patients in the Waycross, Ware County, Pierce County, Brantley County, and Bacon County areas. The charity is a 501(c) 3 domestic nonprofit organization making all contributions are tax deductible.

MLK Parade set for noon Jan. 20 The annual Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Parade will be held at noon Monday, January 20 in Downtown Waycross.
The theme for the parade is “Mission Impossible: Protecting Freedom, Justice and Democracy in the Spirit of Nonviolence 365.”
There is a $20 fee for units in the parade and $25 for vendors or food trucks during the festivities. Applications are available at the tourism desk in City Hall or by calling/text to (912) 337-6062.
The parade will assemble at 10 a.m. at the old Mc-Donald Street School. All parade units must be decorated and portray the event’s theme.
The deadline to enter the parade or reserve a vendor/ food truck spot is today (Wednesday, January 15).
