This week’s PCHS Bear Facts is a listing of hot topics for the week spanning Nov. 30-December 6. Just a few short weeks until Christmas Break! Let’s make sure to study hard in preparation for midterms, finals, and end-of-pathway exams.

Congratulations to Coach Ryan Herring and the PCHS Bears football team, which finished the season 11-2. This is the fifth consecutive season of 11 or more victories by PCHS football. And we salute the senior class for their outstanding achievements over their high school careers: a four-year record of 46-7, a state championship, three region titles, two semi-final berths, three quarter finals berths and tons of team and individual school records. Those seniors include D.J. Bell, JaQuez White, Jimarion Guyton, Jonah Allen, Trent Moody, Matthew Taylor, Lukas Nicely, Henry Peagler, Ty Douberly, Spencer Hutcheson, Trenton Raulerson and Jackson Gambrell.

On the hardwood, JV basketball travels to Wayne County this afternoon. Girls tip off at 4:30, boys at 6 p.m. On Friday, JV and varsity travel to Wayne County: JV girls (3:30), JV boys (5 p.m.), varsity girls (6:30) and varsity boys (8 p.m.). The home basketball opener PCHS teams will be Monday, December 6 vs. Lanier County: JV boys (4 p.m.), varsity girls (5:30), and varsity boys (7 p.m.). The JV girls will not play on this day.

The PCHS Swim Bears are back in the water this Saturday, December 3 at South Georgia State College (Douglas campus). Competition begins at 10 a.m.

And how about the wrestling Bears, off to a 5-0 start! We also salute these grappling Bears for their annual “Christmas-Adopt a Family” drive. Wrestling families, remember to drop off your donations at the large donation tub in the gym by December 16. The next duals competition is slated for December 5 at Appling County.

Seniors, don’t let this month end without taking advantage of “No Application Fee November” at South Georgia State College. This is for those seniors who plan to enroll after graduation.

We salute PCHS FFA and the Farm Business Management team that competed recently at an event in Long County. PCHS FFA tied for fifth place in the region. Team members included Sam Ricketson, Emilee Robins, Cadee Raulerson and Tristen Carlo.

Deck the halls for Christmas with a poinsettia from PCHS FFA. Sales begin next Monday, December 6. You can also support FFA and the annual pork chop fundraiser, set for December 13. Plates are $15 and include green beans and mac ‘n cheese. Pick-up will be after 12:30 p.m. that day. FFA members, meanwhile, will celebrate their annual Christmas Party December 16 on Jekyll Island.

Upcoming testing dates to remember include the Biology EOC on December 9. This will involve juniors and some of the seniors. The next ACT is December 10.

AV students will visit the studios of WSAV TV in Savannah on Tuesday, December 6. Also, Mr. DuPont reminds all interested students about the upcoming region Tech Fair competition. In-person competition resumes this year with district competition in January at South Georgia State College (Waycross Campus) Any PCHS student interested in competing, please contact Mr. DuPont ASAP at [email protected].

Remember, FCA meets every Thursday at 7:45 a.m. in the auditorium. Everyone is invited to attend and to bring a friend. It’s a great way to start your day

Students, as we head toward the end of the fall semester, remember that the dress code remains in effect. No pajamas may be worn to school. All manner of dress, including costumes for Christmas dress-up days, shall be in accordance with the school dress code. Remember to keep it classy.
