HOBOKEN — Door-todoor trash pickup for city residents is rising two dollars a month after a vote and passage of the City of Hoboken city council.
The current rate of $17 will increase to $19 February 1, 2025 after a motion by Councilwoman Amy Lee and a second by Councilman Kenny Jordan during the Tuesday, January 7 monthly meeting. The motion passed unanimously.
City Clerk Linda Henderson said the City of Hoboken is making just $1.40 per trash can in its current contract with Republic or approximately $320 per month.
According to Henderson, there are approximately 227 cans cans with some households having two cans. Republic, which bills the City of Hoboken, is paid $15.60 per can with the current contract (two years remaining on three-year contract). Hoboken residents are then billed by the city.
