Republican Herschel Walker crushed incumbent Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock in Pierce County in the U.S. Senate Run-Off Election last Tuesday.
Walker, former University of Georgia football standout, won Pierce County with 5,928 votes to 770 for Warnock. Walker received 88.5 percent of the vote locally.
A total of 6,705 Pierce Countians cast ballots in the election for a turnout of 53.5 percent.
Statewide, Warnock won re-election to a full term in his own right defeating Walker by about 94,000 votes out of 3.5 million cast. Warnock had 51.4 percent of the vote to Walker’s 48.6 percent.
Turnout was down about four percent in Pierce County from election day Nov. 8. Walker finished with about 400 fewer votes in the run-off than he garnered on election day. Warnock meanwhile, retained most of the votes he received. Warnock received 779 votes on Nov. 8 and 770 votes in the Dec. 6 run-off.
Election superintendent Leah Ritch said she and her staff had a smooth election day with no problems reported.
