A month or so ago, I was checking on a picture at Premier Printing in Brunswick. My good friend, Richard, asked me if I was interested in taking a trip through the Okefenokee Swamp with him and a group of his friends.
H e said they were taking the three-day/night trip into the swamp with canoes and kayaks and, if I wanted to go I was welcome. All I had to do was sit in the front of his canoe and take pictures while he did the paddling.
The trip was scheduled for Friday, January 10 through Sunday, January 12. The trip was set up to go 15 miles a day and camp on the docks each night.
I told Richard I really was interested because I have been into the swamp from both ends traveling a long way, but never all the way through it.
At Christmas, I had some health issues. I waited until January 8 to call and tell him that as bad as I hated to cancel, I felt like I needed to at this time. He said they plan on going again in the spring and I assured him that if anyway possible, I would take him up on the offer then.
Several of my good friends have made the trip through the swamp, including Don Berryhill, Tommy Thrift and Boatdock Bill Davis. All three have told me before spring is better for birds anyway and also it is not as cold either.
