Charles Hendrix, long-time railroad man and founder of C&F Locomotive Services of Offerman (now Progress Rail), passed away Wednesday, Dec. 14. He was 94.
Hendrix worked for Atlantic Coastline Railroad for 42 years, retiring as assistant shop superintendent.
After retiring, he and his late wife, Ollie Faye Hendrix, founded C&F Locomotive Services in Offerman and later owned and operated H&H Locomotive Leasing.
He served for many years on the YMCA of Waycross Board of Directors, and served the community in several other capacities throughout the years. He was a member of Williams Chapel Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at Williams Chapel Baptist Church.
