Herons split in region action vs. Thomasville, Jeff Davis

Brantley County split a pair of Region 1 games continuing a recent trend of alternating wins and losses.

Since their first loss December 10 after getting off to a 6-0 start, the Herons (10-4 overall, 2-2 region) are 4-4.

BCHS fell 62-53 Friday night, January 10 at Thomasville (8-4, 2-0). The victory for the Bulldogs was their third straight and seventh in eight games.

The Herons won for the sixth time in seven home starts Saturday, January 11 knocking off Jeff Davis (7-7, 2-2) 61-44. It was the Yellow Jackets’ second loss in three games.

Brantley County plays three times this week in region action. The Herons traveled Tuesday (January 14) to Nashville to face Berrien (6-8, 0-3). Ninthranked Fitzgerald (10-1, 20) visits Friday, January 17 with Worth County (67, 1-0) coming in for a visit Saturay, January 18.

BCHS goes Tuesday, January 21 to Bacon County (6-8, 1-3) and Friday, January 24 to Pierce County (3-11).

Thomasville...........62 Herons ..................53 THOMASVILLE — The host Bulldogs outscored Brantley County 40-27 over the final 16 minutes to get the victory.

“This was a tough game in a tough environment,” said BCHS head coach Tripp Herring. “Their defensive pressure wore on us as the game ran. We battled, but came up a little short.”

The Herons jumped out to a 14-10 lead by the end of the first period. Each team scored 12 points in the second stanza with Brantley County taking a 26-22 lead to the locker room.

Thomasville outpointed the Herons 17-11 in the third quarter taking a 3937 advantage to the final period. The Bulldogs used a 23-16 scoring advantage over the last eight minutes for the win.

Tucker O’Quinn was the lone double figure scorer for BCHS’s balanced scoring attack finishing with 16 points and handing out a team-high five assists. Carson Jacobs was next with nine points.

Patrick O’Quinn (teamleading 10 rebounds) and Courtlon Fuller (eight rebounds) netted eight points apiece. Holton Depratter chipped in five points with Jayden Simmson and Kent Thomas adding four points and three points respectively.

Herons...................61 Jeff Davis ..............44 CANEY BAY — BCHS raced out to a 17-point halftime advantage and won by the same margin against the Yellow Jackets.

“This was a good win after a tough loss in Thomasville, Herrin said. “We came out in the first half with a lot of energy and a good defensive effort. Tucker (O’Quinn) did a nice job taking the ball to the rim and getting to the line. Carson (Jacobs) and Courtlon (Fuller) both had two pretty good games this weekend.”

Brantley County took control early to lead 15-7 after eight minutes. The Herons outpointed Jeff Davis 16-7 in the second quarter to take a 31-14 halftime lead.

The visitors outscored BCHS 18-17 in the third period to trail 48-32. The Herons returned the onepoint advantage in the fourth stanza outscoring Jeff Davis 13-12.

Tucker O’Quinn (seven rebounds, team-high tying six assists) led three players in double figures with 24 points. Patrick O’Qinn (team-high 11 rebounds, team-high tying six assists) added 13 points.

Fuller (seven rebounds) finished with 13 points. Jacobs (seven rebounds) chipped in nine points with Hayden Stanley bagging five points.
