Pierce County Recreation Board Highlights

(The Pierce County Recreation Board discussed and/or voted on the following during their monthly meeting Tuesday, January 7.)

New board members sworn in: New board members Jake Stewart, Trey Thompson and Chris Wright were sworn in and welcomed as new members. (See related item.)

Officer elections: Board members elected new officers for the coming year. Chris Wright will be the chairman, Trey Thompson will be vice chairman and Jake Stewart will be the treasurer.

Acting chairperson: Anna Saucedo acted as chairperson for the meeting. New officers will take over at the February meeting.

Director’s report: Recreation Director Maureen Brown gave a report on basketball season, which official tipped off Monday, January 6. Brown said the department has 192 participants and a total of 20 teams. She also noted that games are being played Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Brown said the fall sports season was successful. She also told the board season ticket sales have generated $1,130 so far this year. Season passed are still on sale at the recreation board office and at games.

Next meeting: The next monthly meeting will be held at 8 a.m. Tuesday, February 4, at the Southeast Georgia Regional Agriculture Center (SEGARAC) on College Avenue.
