Rotary learns about work-based learning

Work-based learning (WBL) coordinator, Malayna Wetherington, was the guest speaker at last week’s Rotary Club meeting. Wetherington currently has 100 students enrolled in the WBL program. Last semester, WBL students worked 47,500 hours for local businesses and collectively earned approximately $487,000. School Superintendent Dara Bennett gave an update on the renovation at the old high school gym. Bennett also reported about the school system’s ranking for Milestone testing. Several schools ranked first – or are in the Top Three – for our region. The Rotary Club meets weekly at J. Leonard’s on Main. Upcoming club projects include the STAR student/teacher recognition and first-grade book giveaway.
