Donald ‘Pops’ Durr

WAYCROSS — Mr. Donald “Pops” Durr, 83, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2025 at the Baptist Village Retirement Communities following an extended illness.

Durr was born in Brookhaven, Miss., to the late Houston Ray Durr and Allie Lee Case Durr. He worked in law enf orcement for 20 years having been employed with the City of Hoboken, Blackshear Police Department and the Ware County Sheriff’s Department.

While Randy Royal was the sheriff of Ware County, Durr was named an honorary deputy. Most recently he was owner and operator of Triple D Trucking.

Durr also served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He loved hunting and fishing, but most importantly his wife, Carrie, and family. Durr knew Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

In addition to his parents, Durr was also preceded in death by a grandson, Eric Bethea; a brother, Oscar Lee Durr; son-in-law, Chris Hargrove; and a half-sister, Joyce McCartney.

He is survived by his wife, Carrie Durr of Waycross; five children, Becky Hargrove of Clewiston, Fla., Marie Matthews (Windell) of Blackshear, Don Durr (Brenda) of Waycross, Dewayne Durr (Kimberly) of Patterson, and Jessica Whitten (Dustin) of North Littlerock, Ark.; 17 grandchildren, Miranda, Tyler (Gabby), Lanee, Cassie, Mike (Brandy), Ray (Tiffany), David (Brittany), Derek, Tishia, Amanda (Josh), Blake (Catlyn), Brandon (Corrina), Zowie (Kyle), Brayden (Raegan), Dakota and Victoria; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; a step-brother, Jerry Ables of Wesson, Miss.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service was held Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Liberty Christian Church.

Burial followed in Jordan Cemetery.

Music Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
