Sarah Estelle Thornton Turner, 93, of Blackshear, passed away Saturday aft ernoon, December 28, 2024, at her son’s residence in Blackshear.
Born in Tampa, FL February 2, 1931, she lived in Pierce County for most of her life. The most important role she played, next to being a mother and grandmother, was loving the Lord and serving her Christian faith. She loved her family and taking care of the babies, especially cooking for them. She was also known for giving very good advice. She was a member of Blackshear Church of God.
She was a daughter of the late Omer and Lizzie Sinclair Thornton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, J. Hugh Turner; her daughter, Sarah Joanne Turner; both of her sisters, Mary Lou Ammons and Annette Odum; and both of her brothers, Clyde Thornton and Albert Thornton.
Survivors include her sons, Larry Hugh (Denice) Turner and Phillip Andrew Turner, all of Blackshear; three grandchildren, James Hugh “Jay” (Christine Denise) Turner, Sarah Michelle (Jerry) Carver and Gage Bray; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Madison Turner, Tristan Hugh Turner, Sarah Alexis (Brett Ashton) Adams and Jeremiah Isaac Carver; a special friend, Abby Horne; her caregivers, Marie Carter and Laneshia Williams and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Memorialization was by cremation.
A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, from the Pearson- Dial Funeral Home Chapel, with the the Rev. Wayne Hughes, Larry Turner and Pastor Sarah Carver officiating.
