Memories of Dink, Kase and Pres. Carter

Several years ago, my good friend Dink Ne-Smith had an idea for a children's book, using my grandson Kase as the main subject. I would take all of the pictures on the Satilla River and Dink would write a story to go with them. It would be about the environment, keeping the river clean and having me and Kase doing our part to keep it that way. This was the beginning of Kase for the Environment.

One of Dink's longtime friends has been former President Jimmy Carter, and he took Mr. Carter a few of my Satilla River pictures as a gift, because he knew that Mr. Carter had fished on the Satilla with his dad many years ago. Mr. Carter sent me a handwritten note thanking me for the pictures and endorsed our book by writing us a note that we used on the back cover that reads: “The Satilla Rivers were one of my favorite places to visit, admire and enjoy when I would go there as a small boy. It is very important that everyone works together to keep them clean and beautiful.” —Jimmy Carter, Former President of the United States.

Mr. Jimmy Carter passed away Sunday, December 29, 2024, at the age of 100 years old, but I have a cherished piece of history and a great memory to go with our children's book.

This personal note pictured above became the endorsement on the back cover of NeSmith and Morgan’s book.
