Lady Bears’ skid reaches 10 games

Pierce County’s Lady Bears dropped two games over the weekend extending their losing streak to 10 games — their longest in nearly two decades.

PCHS (1-10 overall, 0-1 Region 3-AA) opened the second half of the season Friday, January 3 in Tattnall County falling 5423 to the Lady Warriors in a region tilt. Tattnall County has won 21 of the last 23 matchups at home and holds a dominating 27-8 series lead since the 2010-11 season.

The Lady Bears fell 3924 Saturday to visiting Wayne County, who entered on a nine-game winning streak. The Lady Jackets won the December 13 meeting 43-13 at home to get the season sweep.

Wayne County has won five of the last six meetings to grab a 11-5 series lead since the 2017-18 campaign.

PCHS traveled Tuesday (January 7) to Adel to face region foe Cook. Crisp County visits Friday, January 10 for a region matchup with the Lady Bears closing the week Saturday, January 11 traveling to McIntosh County Academy.

Pierce County goes to regionmate Appling County Tuesday, January 17 and will host Clinch County Wednesday, January 18.

Tattnall Co.............54 Lady Bears.............23 REIDSVILLE — The host Lady Warriors built a 29-point halftime lead en route to the victory over PCHS.

Tattnall County jumped ahead 15-4 by the end of the first period. A 21-3 run in the second stanza extended the margin to 36-7 at the break.

Pierce County outscored the Lady Warriors 11-7 in the third period surpassing its first half point total to trail 43-18. Tattnall County finished the game outscoring the Lady Bears 11-5.

Caren Drew was the lone PCHS player to score more than three points finishing with seven. Isabella Marx, Madi McGatha (trey), Claire Murray (trey) and Sahara Minott each scored three points. Layla Chandel and Kiersten Jones netted two points apiece.

The Lady Warriors, who had six players score fiveplus points, were led by the nine points of Nashyia Cribbs and Jyasia Walker.

Wayne Co. .............39 Lady Bears ............24 BEARVILLE — Wayne County pulled away from a two-point lead early in the fourth quarter closing on a 16-3 run to beat the Lady Bears.

Trailing 23-18 after three quarters, PCHS scored the first three points of the fourth period to get to within 23-21. The Lady Yellow Jackets went on a 16-0 run to blow the game open.

Wayne County claimed an 8-1 lead by the end of the first period. The Lady Yellow Jackets outscored Pierce County 9-7 in the second quarter to take a 178 lead at intermission.

PCHS battled back outscored the visitors 10-6 in the third stanza to cut the deficit to 23-18.

Murray (two threes) led the Lady Bears with 11 points. McGatha (two treys) was next with eight points. Drew and Minott each scored two points. Jones added a free throw.

Mimi Everett paced the Lady Yellow Jackets with 12 points. Tailin Ward scored 10 points.
