Toy giveaway planned for Dec. 19 at Blackshear City Park

The Grinch did have a change of heart at the end of the story.

And, the redeemed Grinch will be giving away toys at Blackshear City Park just in time for Christmas.

The green creature will be at the park from 4:30-6:30 p.m. or until the toy supply is exhaused. The giveaway will be held Monday, Dec. 19. The Grinch will hold a free toy giveaway and will pose for pictures. Again, the event is free and open to the public.

Kevin Rodriguez and his wife, Ashlee, are assisting the Grinch with the giveaway.

Rodriguez says that he knows first hand the need for providing joy to children at the holidays, especially when they may not receive a gift otherwise.

“I know it from personal experience and I have never forgotten it,” he said. “Being able to do this is very important to me and it is my way of giving back.”

Mr. Rodriguez is a Pierce County High School graduate, U.S. Army veteran and a wrestling promoter. Mrs. Rodriguez is currently a student at Coastal Pines Technical College.

The Rodriguezes helped the Grinch with the first round of shopping for toys last week.

The toy giveaway is funded by Heel Kevin Army, a social media page Mr. Rodriguez has on the Twitch platform. Twitch is an interactive livestreaming service. Rodriguez uses the page for wrestling coverage. Supporters of the page have raised money for the toy giveaway.

Rodriguez says that anyone who would like to donate toys to giveaway can bring them to the park the day of the event.
