The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has announced the deadline for filing for disaster assistance for Hurricane Helene has been extended to February 7.
“We understand recovery takes time. FEMA has extended the deadline to ensure no one is left behind,” said Kelly Gaskin, FEMA Media Relations Specialist.
Residents may apply online to DisasterAssistance. gov, use the FEMA App or call the FEMA Helpline at 800-6213362. The telephone line is open every day and help is available in most languages. If you use a relay service such as Video Relay Service, captioned telephone or other service, give FEMA your number for that service.
Pierce County has been included in the federal disaster declaration for Hurricane Helene.
FEMA teams will be available to help citizens complete applications, update their registrations and/or answer any other FEMA related questions.
FEMA’s individuals and households program (IHP) provides financial assistance and direct services to eligible individuals and households affected by the disaster.
Important things to note:
• It is not too late to apply for assistance or appeal a denial.
• FEMA teams can help explain any letters received about your claim.
• You can apply for assistance if your homeowner’s claim was denied or doesn’t cover the full costs of your damages.
• FEMA assistance is a grant, not a loan, and does not have to be paid back.
• Renters may qualify for assistance if they had damage to personal property or were displaced.
