NAHUNTA – Daisy “Ione” Ham Smith, 93 of
Nahunta, passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2024 at her residence after an extended illness.
Born in Nahunta, Mrs. Smith’s parents were Roy Ham and Katie Morgan Ham. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Claude Alton Smith; a son, Dru Smith; a brother, Lee Ham, Jr.; a sister, Patricia Lee; and a son-inlaw, Ronnie Baxley.
Mrs. Smith was a beautician for many years before becoming a homemaker. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church.
She loved spending time with her family, cooking, gardening, bowling, reading and was a good seamstress. Mrs. Smith was a social butterfly who just enjoyed talking to anyone and everyone.
Survivors include her two sons and daughtersin- law, Derek Smith (Sheri) and Deck Smith (Angie) all of Nahunta; four daughters and sonsin- law, Denise Baxley of Hortense, Doreen Kay Duncan (Robert) of Daisy, Dara Smith and Dodi Bullard (Frank) of Nahunta; five grandchildren, Damon Smith, Mitch Baxley, Cecile Duncan, Etta Duncan and Mady Kate Bullard; three great grandchildren, Taylor Smith, Dylan Smith and River Smith; and also several nieces, nephews, other relatives.
A funeral service was held Saturday morning, December 28, 2024 at Southside Baptist Church with Pastor Ashton Ham and Rev. Phillip Cochran officiating.
Burial followed in Oakgrove Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Damon Smith, Kippy Ham, Jay Ham, Donovan Strickland, Garrett Lewis and Frank Bullard.
In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to Georgia Hospice Care.
Arrangements were with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
