Memorial Satilla Health of Waycross is now offering local patients living with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) a new surgical treatment for the sleep-related condition. The surgical procedure uses a special device called a hypoglossal nerve stimulator, which monitors an individual’s breathing while asleep.
The implanted device is FDA approved and is about the size of a pacemaker. Based on the patient’s breathing patterns, the device delivers mild stimulation to keep your airways open.
“We are committed to bringing cutting-edge solutions to our community. This new surgical treatment for sleep apnea offers patients a highly effective, lifechanging option to improve their quality of sleep and overall health,” said Dale Neely, CEO. “This advancement reflects our dedication to innovation and personalized care, ensuring that every patient receives the best possible treatment.”
Left untreated can lead to serious health problems, including stroke, heart attack and Type 2 diabetes. Symptoms of OSA, include: gasping or choking during sleep, snoring, regular fatigue or sleepiness, trouble concentrating and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
