PCHS Bear Facts

This week’s PCHS Bear Facts is a listing of hot topics for the week spanning December 14-20.

As we lead up to final exams, remember the exemption rule. If you are passing all classes and have just one unexcused absence, today (Wednesday) is your last day. If you are passing and have just two unexcused absences, tomorrow (Thursday) is your last day. Friday will be your last day if you are passing and have three unexcused absences.

******

Final exams will be Monday, December 19 and Tuesday, December 20. Both days will be early release days for students. Monday will feature final exams for periods 1, 2, 5, and 6. Tuesday will feature finals for periods 3, 4, 7, and 8. No one is permitted to take finals early without permission from your principal, Mr. Kelly Murray. The dress code remains in effect throughout finals. Thanks for keeping it classy at PCHS.

Congratulations to those students who recently passed the end of pathway exam for Television Production: Clint Hendrix, Liset Nolasco, Cody Ammons, Ryker Coomes, Eli Thornton, Cameron Jarrell, and Trey Spires.Mr. John DuPont is the instructor.

All interested students are reminded of the upcoming region Tech Fair competition. In-person competition resumes this year with district competition in January at South Georgia State College (Waycross Campus) Any PCHS student interested in competing, please contact Mr. DuPont ASAP at [email protected].

We salute the PCHS swim team on their December 3 performance at South Georgia State College, where the varsity boys placed 4th and the girls finished 7th out of 10 participating schools. For the boys, Walker Sergeant finished 1st in the 100-yard Backstroke and 3rd in the 100-yard butterfly. Aiden Vergara was 2nd in the 100-yard Freestyle and 2nd in the 100-yard Breaststroke, where he set a new personal record. The 4 x 100-yard relay team won 1st, while the 200-yard relay team finished 4th. That relay included Rowan McCrea, Aiden Vergara, Walker Sergent and Conner Shipes. Hats off also to Davis Dyal, who completed his first-ever 200-yard Freestyle.

For the PCHS girls, Jasmine Sergent placed 5th in the 100-yard Butterfly and set a personal record in the 100-yard Backstroke.The 4 x 100yd Freestyle relay of Jacey Ryals, Devyn Ball, Shianne Mullis and Jasmine Sergent finished 3rd. Other notable performances included Shianne Mullis and Jacey Ryals in the 500-yard Freestyle, and Devyn Ball in the 100-Yard Breaststroke.

Kiara Nottingham also competed well for PCHS.

The Swim Bears return to the water on Thursday, December 15, 4 p.m. at the Childers YMCA in Waycross. They’ll travel to Albany State University for a competition at 9 a.m. Saturday, December 17.

PCHS wrestling returns to the mats Monday, December 19 in duals action at home versus Appling County and Long County. It’s a 5 p.m. start time.

PCHS basketball is back on the hardwood Monday, December 19 hosting Clinch County. The JV boys play at 4:30 p.m. with varsity girls at 6 p.m. and varsity boys at 7:30 p.m. If you can’t make it to the games, you can watch the action on the NFHS Network. Wayne County visits Bearville for hoops action on Tuesday, December 20. The JV girls play at 2 p.m. followed by the JV boys at 3:30, varsity girls at 5, and varsity boys at 6:30.

The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) will be administered again at PCHS on February 3, 2023. Please see Mr. Tommy Doss in the guidance office to sign up.

 ******

Student Drivers: Remember, you are not permitted to park in the teacher parking lot…Car riders must be picked up at the front of the school; not the back…Only buses should be departing from the bus loading area at the end of the day. Thank you for your cooperation.
