MLK Parade set for noon Jan. 20 The annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Parade will be held at noon Monday, January 20 in Downtown Waycross.
The theme for the parade is “Mission Impossible: Protecting Freedom, Justice and Democracy in the Spirit of Nonviolence 365.”
There is a $20 fee for units in the parade and $25 for vendors or food trucks during the festivities. Applications are available at the tourism desk in City Hall or by calling/text to (912) 337-6062.
The parade will assemble at 10 a.m. at the old McDonald Street School. All parade units must be decorated and portray the event’s theme. Deadline to enter the parade or reserve a vendor/food truck spot is Wednesday, January 15.
Ware Rec. Dept. sets senior dance The Ware County Recreation Department will stage a Senior Dance from 7 to 10 p.m., Saturday, January 11 at the the Trembling Earth Complex, 2110 Cecil Brown Drive.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. with admission $7 per person. DJ Fred Hand will offer the music, and there will be light refreshments, a 50/50 raffle, and more.

FEMA application deadline extended The deadline to apply for Federal Emergency Management Agency assistance has been extended to Friday, February 7.
It originally was set to expire Tuesday, January 7. The four ways to apply will remain active an additional month for the declared counties for those in need of disaster assistance.
The four ways to apply are: online at www.disasterassistance. gov, calling 1-800-621-3362, using the FEMA app, or visiting a Disaster Recovery Center in person. Locate a disaster recovery centers by visiting www.fema.gov/drc, www/disasterassistance.g ov, calling (800) 6213362, or send a text to 43362. When sending the text, type “DRC” and include zip code.
