Kenneth Brando Britton, affectionately called by his middle name, Brando, transitioned into his next life Friday, December 09, 2022.
He was born May 21, 1961, to the late Rev. Walter C. Britton Jr. and the late Melvene Washington Britton. After graduating Blackshear High School in 1979, he joined his parents in farming. However, throughout his life he also worked in the custodial, home construction and retail industries. Having a strong sense of justice, he campaigned tirelessly for the local Lions Club to put out flags to honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day. After several years, his efforts were finally rewarded and in 1998, the Lions Club put out the first flags for King Day.
Then in 2002, he set his sights on local politics and ran for city council. Though he did not win, he remained vocal in his community, always ready to right wrongs and stand up for those who did not have a voice.
He grew up in St. James A.M.E. Church in Blackshear but later became a member and enthusiastic choister at First United Methodist Church in Blackshear. He was also a summer youth leader at First United Methodist and served as a Tail Twister for the Blackshear Lions Club.
He leaves to mourn his passing five siblings, older sister and confidant, Felicia Hill (Ronnie) and big brother and mentor, Dexter Britton, both of Blackshear, middle sister and fellow Soul Train aficionado, Samantha Cook, Phoenix, AZ, younger sister and caregiver, Rhonda Britton, Blackshear and baby sister and fellow philosophical debater, Nicole Hagood (Hassan), Atlanta. His older brother, Stanley Britton, preceded him in death in 2013. Brando never married or had children but he was the favorite uncle to Clayton Hill and Douglas Hill (Dylinder), both of Blackshear, Tonya Denton, Metairie, LA; A. J. Britton, Waycross, Jamie Cook (Deanna), Tampa, FL, Latrail Cook, Columbus, Jonathan Cook, Roanoke, VA, Christopher Cook, Savannah, Rajan Cook, Phoenix, AZ, Nazareth Hagood, London, England and Victoria Hagood, Atlanta. He also leaves to mourn four great-nephews, Traybian Williams Hill, Blackshear, Jayden Britton, Waycross, Titus Cook, Tampa, FL and Zymere Hill, Blackshear; three great-nieces: Tasha Hill, Metairie, LA, Ava Cook, Columbus and Maliyah Hill, Blackshear.
He will also be greatly missed by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends and last but not least, his beloved canine companion Samson.
