Pierce Library accepts food for fines Pierce County Public Library begins accepting Food For Fines donations of unexpired canned food until Dec. 31. Each can will count toward $1 of late fees on items borrowed from the local library.
Senior employment program available A Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is now available locally.
Seniors who are 55 years of age or older, have a low income and want to get back into the workforce are eligible.
SCSEP can connect seniors with a local nonprofit or government agency, where they will get paid to build work experience through on-thejob training. For more information, call 770-538-- 2657.
Vietnam Veterans Chapter to meet
Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 1070, meets the second Thursday of each month at Captain Joe’s Restaurant on Plant Avenue in Waycross. TOPS group meets weekly in Waycross
Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) Group, a non-profit weight loss support group, meets weekly Thursday evenings at the First Presbyterian Church, 601 Hill Street, Waycross. Weigh in is 6-6:25 p.m, followed by the meeting at 6:30-7 p.m. One visit can be made without joining. Annual dues include a TOPS magazine every other month. Genealogist to speak in Appling Jan. 8 Larry Thomas of Gilshot Genealogy Services will be the guest speaker at the annual meeting of the Appling County Heritage Center.
Thomas will speak about genealogy research. He is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists and specializes in pedigree and descendant charts, relationship charts and genealogy reports. His main topic will be how to begin genealogy research into family lines, pointing out things not to do in the process.
The meeting will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at the Sarah’s in the City Restaurant in Baxley.
