Jerry Smith, the 2020 Georgia Centennial Farm Award recipient and lifelong farmer, passed away Wednesday evening, November 30. He was 69.
Smith’s 1,000 acre farm grew from an original 250 acre place purchased by his great-grandfather, Seaborn Smith, in 1867. Smith represented the fifth generation to own the farm.
Smith and his family, including wife, Micki, daughter, Ashley and nephew, Brad, were featured in an April, 2022 story in The Times about the Centennial farm award.
Centennial Farms recognize family farms that have been in existence for at least 100 years.
Smith was a lifelong resident of Pierce County and in addition to farming, also collected toy tractors. He enjoyed history and ancestry and loved talking to people.
He was a member of the Martha Memorial Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Pearson-Dial Chapel.
