Brantley Co. man facing charges for shots fired

HOBOKEN — A Brantley County man was arrested Wednesday night after law enforcement responded to a call of gun shots fired.

The incident happened December 18 between 10:30 p.m. and 11 p.m., at a Cherry Drive residence off Dixon Road just north of Hwy. 82 near the Brantley County-Ware County line.

Brantley County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Derek McQuaig and charged him with Aggravated Asault and Criminal Trespass under the Family Violence act “We arrived on scene as the homeowner arrived home,” said Brantley County Sheriff Len Davis. “Someone had been up there and damaged his front door beating on it, damaged his girlfriend’s vehicle. The aggressor (McQuaig) left the scene and followed the homeowner and his girlfriend back up to his residence.

“And at that point, the defendant pulled a gun and the homeowner pulled his in self defense. There was some shots exchanged and thankfully nobody was hit or hurt.”

McQuaig left the sceen and was eventually brought back by his father. He was taken into custody by deputies and booked into the Brantley County Jail.
