Ware County Sheriff’s Office personnel have apprehended a man sought in connection with a burglary at Wacona Elementary School.
Aaron Jacob Johnson, 35, formerly of a Browntown Road address in Hortense, was taken into custody Monday, December 16. He is being held in the Ware County Jail without bond on multiple felony warrants, authorities said.
WCSO detectives are still investigating the break in, which took place early Saturday morning, December 14, officials said.
Surveillance cameras captured video of the sus-pect climbing the fence to enter the school grounds. Still photos from the video which showed the man’s face circulated on social media.
In addition to damage at the point of entry, a total of seven interior door’s windows were reported broken. Several wrapped Christmas presents and Christmas cards were opened and their contents stolen.
A Coach-brand bag, a guitar belonging to third grade teacher Marissa Dixon, and other items of value also were stolen.
A spokesperson for the Ware County School District said all the items have been found and returned.
“Crimes of this type are truly damaging at any time of year, but they are especially hurtful during the Christmas season,” Sheriff Carl James said. “Several of my detectives have called the suspect’s behavior ‘Grinch-like’ and I can’t disagree.”
