Brantley County’s junior varsity teams split with visiting Pierce County Friday to close out the pre-Christmas schedule.
The Lady Herons had little trouble in the Friday, December 20 opener winning 48-22. The Bears pulled away in the second half for a 55-45 victory.
Lady Herons JV ...........................................48 Pierce County JV..........................................22 CANEY BAY — Brantley County recorded a first quarter shutout and was never headed in beating the Lady Bears.
BCHS raced out to an 18-0 first quarter advantage. Each team scored eight points in the second stanza with the Lady Herons taking a 26-8 lead into intermission.
Brantley County added one point to its margin in the third period outscoring PCHS 8-7 for a 34-15 advantage. The Lady Herons doubled up the visitors 147 in the final period.
Chloe Johns scored a game-high 13 points to lead BCHS. Julia Miller reached double figures finishing with 11 points. Sarah Grace Tompkins netted seven points.
Lydia Anderson, Brodie Allen and Grace Carver netted four points apiece. Mia Bates and Anniston Bowers chipped in three points and two points respectively.
Caren Drew led the Lady Bears with seven points.
Pierce County JV..........................................55 Herons.........................................................45 CANEY BAY — Jemal Strickland, Mershon Stanfield and Kendric Benson combined for 43 points leading PCHS past the Herons.
Strickland scored a game-high 18 points to lead the trio of double figure scorers for the Bears. Stanfield followed with 14 points with Benson adding 11 points.
Pierce County jumped out to a 13-8 lead by the end of the opening period. The Herons battled back to tie the score at 20-apiece at intermission outscoring the visitors 12-7.
PCHS started the second half with a 13-8 scoring advantage in the third quarter to take a 33-28 lead. The scoring pace quickened in the final stanza with the Bears outgunning BCHS 22-17.
Tritsen Dyess led a balanced Herons’ scoring attack with nine points. Cole Courson followed with eight points.
Hayze Evans and Ellis Westover bagged seven points apiece. Tallon Collins and Travon Baker each netted six points. Nathan Howell contributed two points.
