Lady Herons finish first half of season with 6-4 mark
Brantley County ended a second two-game losing streak beating visiting Pierce County Friday night.
The Lady Herons (6-4), who have dropped four of their last six games, fell 43-30 Tuesday, December 17 to visiting Wayne County. The victory gave the Lady Yellow Jackets (5-4), winners of five straight, the season sweep after posting a 38-25 home win December 5.
BCHS turned back the visiting Lady Bears, losers of eight straight, for the third consecutive game while winning for the fourth time in the last five matchups between the two schools 59-30 Friday, December 20. The victory was just the eighth in the last 29 games of the series (2012-13 season) for the Lady Herons and their biggest margin of victory.
Brantley County returns to action Friday, January 3 opening Region 1-A play at Fitzgerald. Region foe Bacon County visits Saturday, January 4.

CANEY BAY — Wayne County limited the Lady Herons to six total points in the first and third quarters in winning a defensive battle.
Brantley County led 5-4 at the end of the opening quarter. The Lady Yellow Jackets stormed back outscoring the visitors 1710 in the second period to claim a 21-15 halftime advantage.
Wayne County limited the Lady Herons to a free throw in the third period using a 7-1 scoring advantage to open up a 28-16 lead. BCHS outpointed the Lady Yellow Jackets 14-12 over the final eight minutes.
Ayaniah Davenport (seven rebounds, steal) led the Lady Herons with eight points. Kimora Mincey (team-high nine rebounds) and Abbie Lee (seven rebounds) followed with seven points apiece.
Tamiyah Coley (three rebounds) netted five points with Lydia Anderson (three rebounds, steal) and Riana Dennard (steal, assist) contributing
two points and one point respectively.

CANEY BAY — Brantley County broke away from a 13-all tie early in the second quarter blowing the game open with a 34-12 run through the end of the third period in beating the Lady Bears.
The Lady Herons, who drained a season-high nine treys, grabbed a 13-9 lead by the close of the first period in a nip-andtuck affair. PCHS scored the first four points of the second stanza tying the game at 13-apiece. Coley’s four-point play sparked a 19-6 run to the halftime buzzer for a 32-19 advantage.
Brantley County continued to widen the margin during the third quarter outscoring the Lady Bears 15-6 for a commanding 47-25 lead. BCHS finished the game outpointing the visitors 12-5.
The Lady Herons’ Summer Colley (five rebounds, team-leading three assists, steal) scored a game-high 15 points connecting on five threes. Dennard (two treys; two rebounds, two steals, two assists) scored her 11 points in the first half.
Lee (trey, team-high tying seven rebounds, two assists) finished with seven points. Ella Highsmith (six rebounds, team-high four steals) netted six points. Mincey (five rebounds) and Coley (team-high three assists, two rebounds, steal) netted five points apiece.
Kirsten Smith (rebound, assist, steal) and Davenport (team-high tying seven rebounds, steal) contributed four points each. Brodie Allen chipped in two points.
PCHS was paced by the 14 points of Claire Murray. Caren Drew and Isabella Marx bagged six points and five points respectively.
Keirstin Jones finished with two points while Layla Chandel, Madi Mc-Gatha and Saharah Minott contributed a free throw apiece.
