Celebrating 76 years

Special to the WJH The American Legion John Sutton Post 517 celebrated its 76th anniversary Saturday, November 30 from 2-5 p.m.

In honor of the day, Mayor Michael- Angelo James presented Post Commander Larry Lockey with a proclamation from the city recognizing the good works of the post during both wartime and peace time.

The American Legion John Sutton Post 517 is an Historic Black American Legion Post chartered on November 15, 1948.

The officers of the post are Commander Larry Lockey, Senior Vice Commander Ernest Lockey, Sr., Financial Officer Terri Smith, Post Adjutant William Leaphart and Emeritus Commander Anthony Dixon.

Sgt. Kennedy Ladon Sanders was remembered for her ultimate sacrifice at the ceremony. SPECIAL PHOTO
