TALLAHASSEE — Ware County alum Thomas Castellanos will don the Garnet and Gold of Florida State in 2025.

Castellanos entered the transfer portal for the second time since 2022 after beginning his career at Central Florida and transferring to Boston College for the 2023-24 seasons.

“Thomas Castellanos is one of the most dynamic play makers in college football,” FSU coach Mike Norvell said in a statement. “He has displayed incredible arm talent while throwing for more than 3,500 yards and more than 30 touchdowns over the last two seasons.

“He has also grown in his passing efficiency, which was put on display last year. He will be a great addition with his ability on the field, and he will be a tremendous compliment to our roster as we bring this program back to the Florida State standard.”

Castellanos has thrown for 3,689 yards while completing 58.6 percent of his passes with 33 touchdowns against 19 interceptions during his three-year college career. He has rushed for 1,427 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Castellanos began his college career at UCF in 2022, playing for Gus Malzahn (now FSU’s offensive coordinator). He played in 21 games (20 starts) at Boston College the last two seasons, completing 58.6 percent of his passes for 3,614 yards and adding 1,307 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns.

ESPN analyst and former FSU quarterback EJ Manuel weighed in on Florida State’s decision to take Castellanos and called it a perfect fit for both parties.

“I love this move. I think this a perfect fit for Castellanos just like it is for Florida State,” Manuel said. “This is a huge opportunity for him to, one, earn the respect of his teammates, and he’s already gotten that because when BC came into Tallahassee they (Eagles) whooped us. So you know what kind of product he’s bringing, the experience that he’s had at Boston College.

“I still wish he would’ve finished his season with his Boston College team just because being a good teammate is really important, but we are in a different era now.”

Castellanos completed 30-of-49 passes for 411 yards with three scoring tosses and an interception in two games (loss, win) against the Seminoles the past two season in ACC play. He totaled 140 rushing yards on 23 carries scoring twice.

Castellanos left the Boston College program after being benched in Game 8 and not playing in Game 9 this past season.

The addition of Castellanos could be the answer the Seminoles need under center as they look to rebuild after such a forgettable and disastrous 2024 in which FSU went 2-10.

The Seminoles have DJ Uiagalelei, who started in 2024 after playing at Clemson (2020-22) and Oregon State (2023).

Former Benedictine quarterback Luke Kromenhoek has entered the transfer portal following his freshman season at the Tallahassee school.

Castellanos threw for 7,710 yards and ran for 3,681 yards as four-year starter at Ware County.
