Gators sandwich two wins around OT loss at Valdosta

Ware County captured two of three games during a busy slate sandwiching the victories around a loss.

The Gators (7-3) began the three-game slate Tuesday, December 10 overpowering Atkinson County 70-17 in Pearson for the season sweep. Ware County won 73-40 at home November 19.

Valdosta outscored the Gators by 13 points over the final period and overtime to post a 70-64 home victory Friday, December 13 for a season split in the series. Ware County beat the visiting Wildcats 72-60 November 21.

The Gators wrapped up the busy week with a second 30-plus point win over visiting Glynn Academy recording a 69-36 decision Saturday, December 14. Ware County knocked off the Red Terrors 77-43 December 6 in Brunswick.

The Gators finish out the first half of the 2024-25 schedule hosting Charlton County Friday, December 20 and Clinch County Saturday, December 21.

PEARSON — Jarvis Wright outscored the Rebels with 23 points in three quarters of action leading the Ware County romp.

The senior sharpshooter followed a fivepoint opening period with 18 points over the second and third quarters. He drained three treys.

The Gators quickly built a double-digit advantage in the opening stanza outscoring Atkinson County 21-4. A 17-6 scoring advantage in the second period pushed the margin to 38-10 at intermission.

Ware County continued to widen the margin outpointing the Rebels 22-3 in the third quarter stretching the margin to 60-13. The Gators finished the game with a 104 scoring margin during the “mercy rule” final period.

Sibari Williams and Dedric Jackson joined Wright in double figures scoring 12 points apiece. Darius Ward and Shaun McClam (trey) followed with seven points each.

Tayshaun Franklin and Tezhan Bolds (trey) contributed four points and three points respectively. Leo Garnder bagged two points.

Jeremiah Goolsby topped Atkinson County with six points.

VALDOSTA — The Wildcats rallied from seven points down to start the final period and force overtime and then outscored Ware County by six points in the extra session for the win.

The Gators took a 4942 lead into the final eight minutes before Valdosta stormed back. The Wildcats outpointed Ware County 15-8 in the fourth period to even the score at 57-apiece.

Brandon Brown scored nine of his team-high tying 14 points(one of four players in double figures) in overtime helping Valdosta to a 13-7 scoring advantge to notch the victory.

Ware County seemed in control early building a 19-8 first quarter advantage. The Wildcats outpointed the visitors 20-15 in the second stanza to trail 34-28 at halftime.

The Gators extended the margin by one in the third quarter outscoring Valdosta 15-14 to claim a seven-point margin.

Wright (four threes) scored 17 of his game-high 24 points in the first half. Ward (two treys) was next in the scoring column with 15 points. Jackson added 11 points.

Williams and Bolds each netted five points. Franklin finished with three points.

Valdosta received 14 points from Shawn Evans. Jabarri Williams chipped in 12 points with Kaleb Johnson finishing with 10.

Ware County outscored the visiting Red Terrors in every quarter including a 25-3 blitz in the second to blow the game open.

The Gators began the rout grabbing a 13-9 lead after one period. The 25-3 run during the second quarter pushed the margin to 38-12 at the break.

Ware County added four points to its margin during the third stanza outscoring the Red Terrors 18-14 for a 56-26 advantage bringin on the “mercy rule” for the final canto. The Gators outscored Glynn Academy 13-11 for the final margin.

Jackson led nine Ware County players in the scoring column scoring a game-high 16 points. Wright (trey) and Bolds each bagged 11 points.

Franklin and Ward contributed seven points apiece while Williams and McClam (trey) netted six points each. Luke Hinely (trey) and Elan Jones finished with three points and two points respectively.
