Ware County senior William Bates was named the Region 1-AAAA Scholar Athlete of the Year in voting by coaches.
The Gators, the region runner-up, placed five players on the all-Region First Team, five on the Second Team and two received honorable mention.
New Hampstead quarterback Rashawn Truell and all-purpose player Rasean Dinkins (defensive back/wide receiver/returner) of Warner Robins were voted Co-Players of the Year.
New Hampstead wide receiver Kamari Maxwell was tabbed the Offensive Player of the Year with Benedictine’s outside linebacker/ defensive end Third Scroggins earning Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Benedictine place kicker/punter Connor Ferguson was named Special Teams Player of the Year.
Perry’s Kevin Smith, who led his team to the region title, garnered Coach of the Year laurels.
Ware County junior offensive linemen Cason Hall and Seth Suess earned First Team honors. Senior defensive linemen Jamar Birden and Walker Hudson were joined by senior linebacker Nick Simmons with First Team selections.
Named Second Team offense were senior quarterback Luke Hooks, senior wide receiver Cole Cox, sophomore wide receiver Ja’Londi O’Hara and sophomore tight end Gunter Fore.
Senior defensive back E.J. Mathusala was the lone Gators defender recognized for Second Team honors.
Senior placekicker Josue Delgadillo and senior tight end/defensive end Iain Watson were honorable mention selections.
