Rebuilding effort seeks residents
Rebuilding Together Waycross is taking applications for its 2025 workday rehabilitating Ware County homes.
At the April workday, volunteers make critical home repairs free of charge to qualified applicants. County residents must own the home, be 62 or older or have a permanent disability, and meet low income guidelines.
Applications can be obtained at Action Pact, Southeastern Credit Union, Central Baptist Church and Waycross City Hall. Applications also are available by visiting www.rebuildingtogetherwaycrossweebly. com.
FEMA application deadline is Jan. 7
The deadline to apply for Federal Emergency Management Agency assistance is just around the corner. The absolute deadline to apply is January 7, 2025.
The four ways to apply are: online at www.disasterassistance. gov, calling 1-800-621-3362, using the FEMA app, or visiting a Disaster Recovery Center in person.
Locate a disaster recovery centers by visiting www. fema. gov/ drc, www/disasterassistance.g ov, calling (800) 621-3362, or send a text to 43362. When sending the text, type “DRC” and include zip code.
Marine League has Thursday meetings All Marines and others interested in supporting Marines and other veterans are invited to the regular monthly meeting of the Waycross Marine Corps League Detachment 1333.
The group meets the third Thursday of each month at The Olive Garden in Waycross. The next meeting is December 19.
First-time participants receive a free meal for the visit. Dinner and social hour is 5:30-6:30 p.m. followed by the business meeting.

‘Touch a Truck’ scheduled Jan. 11 Ware County’s 4-H and the UGA Extension Agency are teaming to stage a free “Touch-a-Truck” safety event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, January 11 at the Okefenokee Fairgrounds, 2335 Knight Avenue.
There will be a variety of vehicles — fire truck, police car, SWAT car, ambulance, excavator, etc. — for attendees to learn from and interact with. There also will be a car seat checkup.

Legion Post 517 to meet Dec. 18
American Legion Post 517 will meet at 6 p.m. today (Wednesday, December 18) at the post, 710 Dorothy Street.

Library swapping diapers for dollars The Waycross-Ware County Public Library, 401 Lee Avenue, is exchanging diapers for dollars as a way to eliminate fines.
The library will deduct $1 from all fines for every diaper donated through Tuesday, December 24. All diapers collected by the library will be donated to Called to Care-Ware County.

The Okefenokee Alliance for the Homeless is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Lunch is served to homeless clients from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Daily afternoon hours 15 p.m. are by appointment only. The facility previously was open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday.
All Recovery meetings in partnership with The Trust are held from 1-2 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Rise ‘n’ Shine is held at 7:45 a.m. and Business After Hours at 5 p.m., each once every month.
