NAHUNTA — A Nahunta man is facing five charges including two drug charges following a traffic stop by the Nahunta Police Department.
Lovell Vincent Williams II, 44 of Nahunta, was taken into custody Tuesday, December 10 and charged with Equipment Violation, Possession of Cocaine, Open Container of Alcohol, Possession of Drug Related Objects and Driving with a Suspended License.
The Nahunta Police Department’s Crime Suppression Unit (CSU) and K-9 Unit conducted a traffic stop at approximately 10 p.m., on a white GMC pickup truck for an equipment violation. The stop occurred at the intersection of Bacon Street and Florida Avenue.
Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer detected the odor of marijuana. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed narcotics and other illegal items.
The NPD’s Crime Suppression Unit is committed to removing individuals who drive under the influence and are in possession of dangerous drugs from the streets. These offenders endanger the safety of our community, and we are steadfast in our efforts to protect the public.
Officers also conducted three other traffic stops December 10. Each stop involved drivers operating vehicles with suspended licenses. These incidents underscore the ongoing commitment of the Nahunta Police Department to enforce traffic laws and address drug-related crimes.
Chief Brad Todd would like to remind the public:
• If you loan your vehicle to someone who has a suspended or no driver’s license, you are also breaking the law. Vehicles involved in these situations will be impounded.
• If illegal drugs are found in the vehicle, the NPD will initiate forfeiture procedures to seize the vehicle.
The Nahunta Police Department will continue its proactive efforts to keep roads safe and free from criminal activity. Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to help maintain the safety and security of the community.
