Businesses in Pierce County reported “very good” sales over Thanksgiving weekend for Black Friday and Shop Small Saturday.
“We beat last year’s sales by a significant amount,” said Michelle Davis, owner of Michelle’s on Main.
Davis said inflation and overhead costs are a constant challenge for small businesses, but she said that didn’t seem to have a negative effect on sales.
“We were busy both Friday and Saturday. We did really good,” she said.
Davis said top sellers at her Main Street store were HeyDude® and Twisted X® shoes, ladies tops and jeans.
Claire Larson, owner of 84 West on Central Avenue, said Black Friday turnout was better than she expected.
“We were up 15 percent in sales over last year and our Shop Small Saturday sales were also up,” she said. “Our fourth quarter sales have been a blessing. We are stocked and ready to take on December.”
Alex and Bailey Farmer at 84 West said they were busy waiting on customers both days.
Most of the top sellers there were University of Georgia Bulldog attire, t-shirts, sweaters and jewelry.
Down in Patterson at The Barnard Company, Mary Claire Barnard reports Friday was busy, but Saturday was a little slower than last year.
“Sales were not down, though. We were even with last year, which is a good thing,” she said.
Top sellers at The Barnard Company were Christmas decor, candles, gourmet food items and Hello Mello® clothing.
Black Friday is traditionally the kick off to the Christmas shopping season. Shop Small Saturday encourages patrons to support their local businesses by shopping at home in Pierce County.
