Brantley County’s Lady Herons split a two-game slate posting a road victory at Clinch County and falling to visiting Charlton County.
The Lady Herons (5-2) snapped a mini two-game losing streak recording a 35-32 win Tuesday, December 10 in Homerville over then eighth-ranked Clinch County (1-2).
The Indian Maidens (5-2) handed Brantley County its third loss in four games winning 56-41 for the season split. The Lady Herons notched a 47-31 road win November 19 in Folkston.
BCHS plays twice this week. The Lady Herons hosted Wayne County Tuesday, December 17. Pierce County visits Friday, December 20 in the last game before the Christmas break.
Brantley County returns to action Friday, January 3 opening Region 1-A play at Fitzgerald. Region foe Bacon County visits Saturday, January 4.
Lady Herons ...................35 No. 8 Clinch Co. ..............32 HOMERVILLE — Summer Colley’s three-point two minutes into the fourth quarter gave the Lady Herons the lead for good en route to knocking off Clinch County.
Brantley County led throughout the first half and up until the final 30 seconds of the third quarter when the Lady Panthers grabbed their first lead.
BCHS scored the first six points of the game en route to grabbing a 10-6 lead after one quarter. The two teams matched their point production in the second period with the Lady Herons taking a 20-12 lead at intermission.
Clinch County capitalized on BCHS’s struggles from the floor during the third period using a 13-3 scoring advantage to grab a short-lived 25-23 lead. Destiny Colbert’s (11 points) basket inside the final 30 seconds capped a 196 run by the Lady Panthers after Brantley County opened up a 176 advantage in the second quarter.
The Lady Herons’ Kirsten Smith (career-high 10 points, seven rebounds, two assists, steal) evened the score at 25apiece with Colley’s (six points, two rebounds, two assists, steal) trey giving Brantley County a 2825 advantage. Clinch County pulled to within 33-32 with a minute remaining.
A Lady Panther turnover foiled a chance to take the lead. Ella Highsmith’s (double-double with game-high 14 points, team-high tying 14 rebounds, two steals) putback of an offensive rebound with 36 seconds remaining sealed the win.
Kimora Mincey (team-high tying 14 rebounds, three assists, steal) added five points for the Lady Herons.

Lady Herons ...................41 CANEY BAY — The Indian Maidens outscored Brantley County in all but the third quarter in getting the road win.
Charlton County led 10-7 after the first eight minutes. The Indian Maidens outpointed BCHS 19-11 in the second stanza to open up a 29-18 halftime lead.
Each team scored seven points in the third period with the visitors taking a 36-25 advantage into the final period. The scoring pace quickened over the last eight minutes with Charlton County finishing the game with a 20-16 scoring advantage.
Riana Dennard (three rebounds, two assists) led the Lady Herons with nine points. Smith (two rebounds, steal) followed with eights with Mincey (five rebounds, two steals) and Colley contributing six points and five points respectively.
Ayaniah Davenport (teamhigh 12 rebounds, two steals, assist) and Highsmith (three rebounds, assist, steal) bagged four points each. Brodie Allen (rebound) and Tamiyah Coley (five rebounds, steal) contributed two points apiece. Julie Carter (four rebounds, teamhigh three assists, steal) added a free throw.

Anderson outscored the Indian Maidens finishing with a gamehigh 17 points while Bates added 10. Chloe Johns followed with seven points.
Tamiyah Coley was next with five points, Rachel Kennedy and Grace Carver netted four points apiece and Breanna Gilder finished with three points. Brodie Allen and Sarah Grace Tompkins each netted two points.
