BCHS drops overtime decision to Panthers, gets sweep of Indians

Brantley County split games with Class A Division II foes Clinch County and Charlton County.

The Herons’ (7-1) first loss of the season came Tuesday, December 10 in overtime with Clinch County rallying for the 66-60 victory.

Brantley County bounced back Friday completing the season sweep of Charlton County rolling to a 75-41 home victory. The Herons recorded a 56-42 victory in the November 19 meeting in Folkston.

BCHS wraps up the first half of the season with two home games this week. Wayne County visited Tuesday, December 17. The Herons host Pierce County Friday, December 20.

Clinch County...............................................66 Herons...................................................60, OT HOMERVILLE — Clinch County rallied from an eight-point deficit entering the fourth quarter to force overtime and escape with the win over the Herons.

Tucker O’Quinn, Patrick O’Quinn and Carson Jacobs combined for 56 points. Tucker O’Quinn (six rebounds) scored a team-high 25 points. Patrick O’Quinn recorded a double-double team-high six assists) with 19 points and 10 rebound as did Jacobs with 12 points and a teamhigh 11 rebounds.

Courtlon Fuller netted three points with Jayden Simmons canning a free throw.

Brantley County, trailing 27-24 at halftime, outscored the Panthers 14-3 in the third period to open up a 3830 lead with eight minutes to play.

Clinch County found an offensive rhythm in the fourth quarter outscoring the Herons 25-17 to even the score at 55-all. The Panthers used an 11-5 scoring advantage in the extra session to get the win.

“We had some real good chances to put the game away in the fourth quarter,” said BCHS head coach Tripp Herrin. “Our defense let us down a little in the final period. Clinch County has a good team. This was good for us to play a tight game against good competition. We can learn from this experience.”

The two teams were tied at 13-apiece after the opening period. Clinch County outscored the Herons 14-11 in the second quarter to claim a 27-24 lead at intermission.

Herons .........................................................75 Charlton County ...........................................41 CANEY BAY — Patrick O’Quinn blistered the nylons scoring a career-high 35 points leading three players in double figures in leading Brantley County past the Indians.

O’Quinn also grabbed five rebounds. Tuker O’Quinn (seven rebounds, team-high four assists) finished with 14 points. Holton Depratter (eight rebounds) netted 12 points.

“There were lot of fouls were called against both teams forcing both teams deep into the benches,” said Herring. “Patrick was really good and played exceptional defense. Holton came in and gave us some good minutes off the bench.”

BCHS raced out to a 16-6 first quarter advantage. the Indians stormed back in the second period outscoring Brantley County 22-16 to cut the deficit to 32-28 at the break.

The Herons dominated the second half outscoring Charlton County 43-13. Brantley County used a 22-6 scoring advantage in the third stanza to stretch the margin out to 54-34. A 21-7 run over the final eight minutes widened the margin to 34 points.

Fuller (team-high 10 rebounds) was next in the scoring column with seven points. Jacobs finished with four points. Cole Courson and Elias Esser chipped in two points and one point respectively. Kent Thomas pulled down seven rebounds.
