McGatha voted Region 3 Player of the Year

Morris named Defensive Player of Year, Drew tabbed Athlete Year by coaches

Pierce County senior quarterback Caden McGatha, senior linebacker Dixon Morris and senior wide receiver/defensive back Joe Drew earned top individual Region 3-AA honors in voting by coaches.

Five other players were named to the all-Region First Team on offense with two on defense. Four more offensive stalwarts received Second Team status and one special teams player.

One offensive player and three defensive players received honorable mention status.

McGatha was named the region’s Player of the Year after leading the Bears to a 9-1 regular season mark and the third round of the Class AA state playoffs. He finished the year with 1,755 yards rushing and 22 touchdowns to go along with 1,830 yards passing and 27 touchdowns.

The totals came on the heels of 2,160 yards rushing and 31 touchdowns last season along 2,011 yards passing and 23 scores.

Morris was part of a defensive unit which ranked amongst the Top 3 in the state for fewest points allowed. PCHS entered the playoffs allowing just 6.8 points per game, finishing the season at 10.5 points.

Drew led the receiving corps with 36 catches for 554 yards and five touchdowns. He also led the defensive unit in interceptions.

Crisp County junior wide receiver Deshaun Fedd was tabbed Offensive Player of the Year.

Appling County’s Jordan Mullis was the Coach of the Year after leading the Pirates to the region crown.

First Team offensive honors went to sophomore wide receiver Chance Williams, senior tight end Brandon Williams, H-back Jones Herrin and senior offensive linemen Dylan Figueroa and Trent Griffin.

Senior defensive lineman Logan Clark and senior linebacker Campbell Strickland were tabbed as First Team selections.

Junior wide receivers Jah Evans and Nigel Brown were joined by senior offensive linemen Jordan Williams and Colson Gambrell on the Second Team offense.

Junior place-kicker Garrett Stevenson earned Second Team status.

Sophomore offensive lineman Trenton Kennedy was joined by senior defensive lineman K’Don Lashley, sophomore defensive lineman Logan Spivey and junior linebacker Johnny Stone as honorable mention.
