A Blackshear man has been arrested and charged in connection with several arson fires over the past month.
Joey Bryan Chancey Jr., 20, has been charged with two counts of arson in the first degree in connection with a fire Nov. 23 and another Dec. 10 that occurred at the same residence on Moore Street. He also reportedly confessed to four car fires that occurred on Grady Street around the same time.
According to Sheriff Ramsey Bennett, Chancey was the tenant of the Moore Street home and allegedly set the house on fire Nov. 23.
Firefighters put out the blaze, but the home was gutted.
“Apparently, he decided he didn’t do a good enough job burning the house, so he went back Dec. 10 and set it on fire again,” said the sheriff.
The car fires occurred on Grady Street in the area near the house fire.
Chancey is currently being held in the Pierce County Jail.
