Pierce County dropped two games, extending its current skid to five games with setbacks to both Bacon County and Wayne County.
The Lady Bears (1-5) fell 30-26 to the Lady Red Raiders (5-1). Bacon County completed the season sweep following a 57-29 home win November 19.
The victory in the first matchup ended a 12-game losing streak in the series for the Lady Red Raiders dating back to 2007-08.
PCHS found the rims unkind Friday, December 13 in Jesup falling for the fourth time in the last five matchups 43-13 to the Lady Yellow Jackets. The 13 points was the lowest point production for the Lady Bears since falling 55-13 to Ware County during the 2015-16 campaign.
It was also Pierce County’s lowest point total on the road since falling 71-9 at Beach in Savannah in 201213.
PCHS closes out the first half of the schedule with three games this week. The Lady Bears traveled Monday (December 16) to face Clinch County, hosted Jeff Davis Tuesday (December 17) and goes to Brantley County Friday, December 20.
Pierce County will play twice the first week of 2025. The Lady Bears visit Tattnall County in the Region 3AA opener Friday, January 3. Wayne County comes calling to Bearville Saturday, January 4.
Bacon County ..............................................30 Lady Bears ..................................................26 BEARVILLE — Marnay’jah Reynolds and MaKayla Thomas combined for 25 of Bacon County’s 30 points in the victory over the Lady Bears.
Reynolds, a point guard, scored a game-high 13 points with Thomas doing her damage down low finishing with 12 points.
Claire Murray and Caren Drew (trey) each scored 10 points to lead the Lady Bears.
Bacon County claimed a 7-6 lead through the opening eight minutes. The Lady Red Raiders outpointed PCHS 10-6 in the second period to take a 17-12 halftime lead.
The visitors opened up some breathing room in the third quarter outscoring the Lady Bears 10-6 in building a 27-18 lead. Pierce County pulled to within 27-24 in the final stanza, but could get no closer.
Jose’ziah James, Shakina Smith and Ansley Hutcheson chipped in two points apiece.
Wayne County .............................................43 Lady Bears...................................................13 JESUP — Wayne County limited PCHS to one point in the first period and no more than five points in any quarter in notching the win.
The Lady Bears made just three field goals on the night and was just 7-of-18 at the free throw line.
The Lady Yellow Jackets quickly built a double-digit lead in the first period opening up a 12-1 lead. They outscored Pierce County 18-4 in the second stanza for a comfortable 30-5 halftime lead.
Each team scored three points in a third quarter defensive struggle with Wayne County holding a 33-8 lead. The Lady Yellow Jackets doubled up PCHS 10-5 in the final period.
Drew paced Pierce County with four points. Murray finished with three points. Layla Chandel, Madi McGatha and Saharah Minott netted two points apiece.
Wayne County’s Tailin Ward (three treys) finished with a game-high 17 points. Alyssa Tillman scored all 12 of her points from behind the arc.
