PCHS suffers third consecutive sweep falling at Jeff Davis

HAZLEHURST — Host Jeff Davis swept visiting Pierce County here Tuesday in the lone games of the week for PCHS.

The Lady Bears (1-3) suffered a third consecutive loss falling 49-25 to the Lady Yellow Jackets in the opener. The Bears (0-4) remained winless on the road suffering a 65-54 loss in in the nightcap.

PCHS hosted Bacon County Tuesday night (December 10) in the first home game of the season and in the only games of the week.

Pierce County plays two of its three games on the road next week. PCHS travels Friday, December 13 to Wayne County.

Pierce heads Monday, December 16 to Clinch County, will play host to Jeff Davis Tuesday, December 17 and finish out the pre-Christmas part of the schedule Friday, December 20 going to Caney Bay to face Brantley County.

Jeff Davis .................................................49 Lady Bears ...............................................25 The Lady Yellow Jackets doubled up PCHS in the first quarter and outscored the visitors in every period to notch the win.

Jeff Davis claimed a 10-5 first quarter advantage. The Lady Yellow Jackets moved the margin to double digits by intermission outscoring Pierce County 18-7 in the second stanza in opening up a 28-12 lead.

The home team added two points to its advantage in the third period outscoring PCHS 10-8 for a 3820 lead. An 11-5 uprising in the final quarter provided the final margin.

Claire Murray was the lone double-figure scorer for the Lady Bears finishing with 17 points. Madi Mc-Gatha, Caren Drew and Ansley Hutchinson added two points apiece. Jesslyn Moore and Keristen Jones each contributed a free throw.

The Yellow Jackets led just 11-10 at the end of the opening period. They widened the margin to three points by halftime outscoring PCHS 16-14 in the second quarter to lead 27-24 at the break.

The Bears used a 14-9 scoring advantage in the third stanza to grab a 38-36 lead with eight minutes remaining. Jeff Davis caught fire in the fourth quarter in outscoring PCHS by 13 points for the win.

Joe Drew made his first appearance of the year with the football season coming to a close finishing with a team-high 23 points (8-of-17 from the floor, 7-of-9 free throws) and grabbed six rebounds. Jikeyse McGauley was 3-of-5 from beyond the arc in scoring nine points.

Gabe Varnadore (seven rebounds, two blocks), Brandon Williams (team-high 11 rebounds in first game) and Ahmad Anrold (six rebounds) each scored seven points. Ryan Pittman contributed two points.
