Rec Board now has three new members

Pierce County’s Recreation Board is back up and running.

Commissioners appointed three new members to the board at their regular meeting Tuesday night, replacing three members who resigned last month.

The resignations have left the board without a quorum to function for the last two meetings.

Jake Stewart was appointed to the district one seat by Commissioner Harold Rozier Jr. replacing Timothy Griffis.

Blackshear Police Chief Chris Wright was appointed as the district two representative by Commissioner Graham Raley, replacing Barrett Boatright.

Trey Thompson was appointed to the district four post by David Lowman, replacing Johnny Thigpen Jr., former chairman of the recreation board.

Members are appointed by commission district, though the recreation board representative may or may not live in that county commission district.

Stewart, Wright and Thompson will fill the unexpired terms for Griffis, Boatright and Thigpen.

Stewart’s appointment will be for four years. Griffis’ term was slated to expire at the end of December.

The terms of Boatright and Thigpen Jr. are staggered, but county officials were trying to determine how long is left on the appointments.

The three new appointees join current board members Brad Arington and Anna Saucedo.

The new board is expected to hold its first meeting at 8 a.m. Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at the Southeast Georgia Regional Agriculture Center.
