Everyone loves a parade!

Waiting on the Blackshear Christmas Parade to start are Sophie Gillis, Hank Norman, Hannah Norman, Asher Spradley, Landrey Smith, Mike Manders, Bradon Gillis, Delilah Gillis, Laney GIllis, Emma Smith, Avery Spradley, Amelia Spradley and Dana Manders.

“Songs of the Season” filled the air and also was the theme as the annual Christmas parade traveled through Blackshear Monday night.

Large crowds turned out in mild weather to see the parade. The PCHS Sound of Silver Marching Band led the way and was followed by a procession of floats from local schools, sports, cheerleading and dance teams, local businesses and churches. There were plenty of Christmas characters, including Rudolph, Frosty the Snowman and two grumpy Grinches, as well as beauty queens, Nativity scenes, ballerinas, a toy soldier, a cowboy and yes, even the jolly old elf himself, Santa Claus, faithfully accompanied by his better half, Mrs. Claus.

Plenty of candy was tossed out to the crowd and the sound of Christmas music mingled with sirens and flashing lights was nearly overwhelming at times, but all seemed to enjoy themselves. Following the parade many families made their way to Blackshear City Park to enjoy the lights, take pictures with the various costumed characters and enjoy a snack from the food trucks parked nearby.

Looking like they jumped straight out of a movie, the Grinch and Cindy Lou Who sailed through the parade behind the Grinch’s dog Max.
Finishing things up, the jolly ol’ elf himself makes his appearance, Santa Claus rides in one of the local fire engines instead of his usual sleigh.
Tyler Martin, 4, reacts with a big grin after seeing Santa at the end of the parade.
Center Stage Dance Studio’s float featured a magical scene set in the Land of Sweet from Christmas classic The Nutcacker Suite.
