PCMS splits with Appling Middle

Pierce County Middle School split with Appling County Middle School in 8th-grade Southeast Georgia Middle School action last week.

The Lady Bears fell 39-21 in the Monday, December 2 opener to the visiting Lady Rams. The Bears followed with a 43-22 victory in the nightcap.

PCMS’s 6th-7th grade teams hosted Waycross Middle School Wednesday, December 4. The Lady Bears pulled a 17-16 victory. No report was filed on the Bears-Bulldogs’ matchup.

Appling Middle...................................39 Lady Bears..........................................21 BEARVILLE — The Lady Rams doubled up PCMS in the opening stanza and built a doubledigit lead by intermission in notching the win.

Leading 10-5 after one period, Appling Middle recorded a second quarter shutout outscoring the Lady Bears 10-0 for a comfortable 20-5 halftime cushion.

The visitors stretched the margin to 20 points through three periods after a 12-7 scoring advantage to open up a 32-12 lead. PCMS clipped two points off the margin in the final stanza outscoring the Lady Rams 9-7.

Brooklyn Thomas paced the Lady Bears with nine points. Zayleigh Raithel followed with five points. Kail Strickland, Aubree Wilkins and Wynn Hodges netted three points each. Brylee Walker canned a free throw.

Bears..................................................43 Appling Middle...................................22 BEARVILLE — Damon Moody outscored Appling Middle in all but one quarter in powering the Bears to the win with a game-high 25 points.

Moody scored 10 of PCMS’s 15 first quarter points as the Bears built a 15-4 advantage. Pierce Middle added one point to its margin by halftime using a 9-8 scoring advantage for a 24-12 lead.

Moody scored six points in the third quarter as the Bears doubled up Appling Middle 8-4 for a 32-16 advantage. He scored seven points in the fourth period helping PCMS outpoint the Rams 11-6 for the final margin.

Will Higginson was next in the scoring column with eight points. Miles Pitts (trey) contributed five points. Mason Hutcheson (trey) and Greyson Raulerson bagged three points and two points respectively.

6th-7th grade Lady Bears ..........................................17 Waycross Middle ................................16 BEARVILLE — Skylar Whitaker’s second of two free throws made proved to be the difference lifting Pierce Middle to the one-point win over the Lady Bulldogs.

Sadie Warren topped the PCMS scoring column with seven points. Whitaker added six points while Kendall Douberly and Julianna Murray each contributed two points.
