Pierce Friends of the Library seeks officers

O’Driscoll

The Pierce County Friends of the Library discussed several important topics including current vacancies in the organization’s leadership during their regular November meeting held recently.

Those gathered discussed possible candidates for the three vacant roles of secretary, treasurer and vice president. The search for new officers had been previously delayed by Hurricane Helene and the cancellation of October’s regular meeting.

Acting in the absence of FOL President Lana Blankenship, who was unavailable for personal reasons, Christi Pitts officiated the meeting and suggested each member reach out to suitable individuals in the community with a love for the library.

One new FOL member was enrolled at the November meeting,

staff writer Greg O’Driscoll. Following a brief discussion, O’Driscoll was also unanimously approved to serve as the new secretary for the group, which still leaves the positions of treasurer and vice president to be filled.

Other topics under discussion were the recent local children authors event, FOL financial reports, the status of a 50-50 fund matching grant to pay for the library’s new roof, potential fundraising activities for the coming months and how fundraising by the FOL differs from that of the Pierce County Library itself.

The FOL is a 501C non-profit organization of volunteers working together to support the Pierce County Public Library and to encourage learning and community. If you love reading, the library, are community minded or believe in charitable public service, the FOL encourages you to attend their next meeting.

FOL meetings are held at the library 6:30p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month and yearly membership dues are $15 .
