A Waycross woman was injured when her work truck was struck by a CSX locomotive Thursday, November 29.
According to recently released report of Georgia State Patrol Trooper Chris Rigby, Latieha Williams, 45 of Waycross, was taken by Brantley County EMS to Memorial Satilla Health System in Waycross following the 11:30 a.m. collision.
Williams was driving a 2021 Mac LR trash truck for Republic Services along Joyce Road on the north side of the east-west track line running along Hwy. 82. Trooper Rigby reported the trash truck was negotiating a curve to cross the railroad tracks at its intersection with Hwy. 82.
The vehicle failed to stop at the stop sign as it approached the crossing and was struck by an eastbound 2008 CSX locomotive, driven by Russell Rogers, 53 of Savannah, on the passenger side front bumper. The trash truck rotated counterclockwise a few feet coming to a final uncontrolled rest in the center of Joyce Road facing southeast.
The CSX train came to a final controlled stop beyond the impact zone. The train suffered slight damage.
Williams was transported to Memorial Satilla Health System in Waycross for observation. She was cited for a traffic violation.
Neither Rogers nor his passenger, Mason Jones, 32 of Savannah, were treated for injuries.
The accident halted railway traffic as Georgia State Patrol, Brantley County deputies and CSX officials worked the scene.
