Brantley County’s Herons posted two road wins to keep their unbeaten record intact.
The Herons (6-0) continued their great start to the season rolling to an easy 71-40 victory Tuesday, December 3 in Baxley against Appling County. BCHS’s win completed the season sweep of the Pirates after recording a 5842 home decision November 21.
Brantley County knocked off Class 4A Wayne County 61-44 Thursday, December 5 in Jesup.
The Herons traveled Tuesday, December 10 to Clinch County to wrap up a three-game road trip. Charlton County visits Friday, December 13 to start a three-game homestand.
Wayne County visits Tuesday, December 17 with Pierce County invading Friday, December 20 to put a wrap on the pre-Christmas schedule.
Herons ...................71 Appling County......40 BAXLEY — Brantley County outscored the host Pirates 41-13 over the middle two periods to blow the game open.
“I thought we put together real good second and third quarters,” said head coach Tripp Herrin. “We were able to get some steals, get out in transition, and get some easy baskets. The guys shared the ball real well.”
Patrick O’Quinn (teamhigh tying eight rebounds, eight assists) and Tucker O’Quinn (team-high 10 assists — double-double, four rebounds) led the way with 18 points apiece.
The Herons claimed an 18-11 lead after eight minutes. They used an 18-5 scoring advantage in the second period to stretch the margin to 36-16 at intermission.
Brantley County outpointed the Pirates 23-8 in the third stanza to open up a 59-24 lead.
Following the O’Quinns were Carson Jacobs (six rebounds) with eight points and Courlon Fuller (team-high tying eight rebounds). Hayden Stanley and Jayden Simmons contributed six points and five points respectively.
Cole Courson bagged four points. Elias Esser netted three points while Kent Thomas chipped in two points.

JESUP — The Herons outscored host Wayne County 35-14 in the second and fourth quarters to secure the victory.
Tucker O’Quinn erupted for a season-high 27 points to go along with a teamhigh seven assists to lead BCHS.
The Yellow Jackets built a 15-11 advantage by the end of the first period. Brantley County outscored the home team 19-10 to grab a 30-25 halftime lead.
“Wayne came out with a lot of energy,” said Herrin. “We got in some early foul trouble that hurt us. I thought our defense was solid after the first quarter.”
Wayne County clipped one point off the deficit in the third quarter outscoring the Herons 15-14 to get to within 44-40. BCHS shut the door defensively over the final eight minutes outscoring the Yellow Jackets 17-4 to get the win.
Fuller recorded a double- double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Patrick O’Quinn (six assists, teamhigh five steals) chipped in nine points.
Jacobs (eight rebounds) followed with six points. Simmons and Esser contributed three points each. Thomas was credited with five assists.
