Brantley County’s Lady Herons had their unbeaten start to the 2024-25 season interupted with back-toback road losses.
The Lady Herons (42) dropped their first game of the season falling 49-41 Tuesday, December 3 in Baxley to Appling County. BCHS captured a 50-46 home decision back on November 21.
Brantley County fell 38-25 Thursday, December 5 in Jesup to Class 4A Wayne County.
The Lady Herons traveled Tuesday, December 10 to face Class A DII fifth-ranked Clinch County in Homerville to wrap up a three-game road trip. Charlton County visits Friday, December 13 to start a three-game homestand before the Christmas break.
Wayne County comes calling Tuesday, December 17 with Pierce County visiting Friday, December 20 in the last game of 2024.
Appling County....49 Lady Herons ........41 BAXLEY — Host Appling County outscored the Lady Herons in every quarter to garner the season split.
The Lady Pirates grabbed an 8-6 first quarter advantage slowly pulling away from there. An 8-5 score in the second stanza extended Appling County’s margin to 16-11 at intermission.
Both teams surpassed their first half production as the pace quickened in the third period. The Lady Pirates outpointed BCHS 20-18 to take a 36-29 lead into the final eight minutes. Appling County clipped the Lady Herons 13-12 in the fourth period.
Ella Highsmith (teamhigh 10 rebounds, steal) paced Brantley County, which had seven players reach the scoring column, with nine points. Ayaniah Davenport (three rebounds, steal) and Abbie Lee (five rebounds) finished with six points each.
Riana Dennard (two rebounds, assist) netted five points. Summer Colley (team-high five assists, two rebounds, steal) and Tamiyah Coley (two rebounds, assist) each contributed four points.
Brodie Allen (assist) bagged three points. Kimora Mincey (five rebounds, team-high five steals) and Kirsten Smith (two steals, rebound) added two points apiece.
Wayne County .....38 Lady Herons ........25 JESUP — Wayne County doubled up the Lady Herons 32-16 over the final three periods after spotting the visitors a three-point lead.
Brantley County built a 9-6 lead after eight minutes over the host Lady Yellow Jackets. Wayne County outpointed BCHS 12-7 in the second quarter to take an 18-16 lead into the break.
The Lady Yellow Jackets doubled up Brantley County 12-6 in the third stanza to open up a 30-22 lead. Wayne County finished the game outscoring the Lady Herons 8-3 for the final margin.
Dennard reached double figures for BCHS finishing with 10 points. Colley and Davenport contributed five points and four points respectively.
Smith and Highsmith followed with two points apiece. Julie Carter and Lydia Anderson each canned a free throw.
