WAYCROSS — Mrs. Nadine Henderson Godfrey, 100, of Waycross died Wednesday morning, November 27, 2024, at Baptist Village Retirement Communities after an extended illness.
She was born in Manor to the late James Martin Henderson and Eliza Beverly Henderson. Raised in Waycross, Mrs. Godfrey moved to St. Mary’s where she lived for most of her life before moving back to Waycross in 2014. Mrs. Godfrey worked for Gilman Paper Company and was a member of First Baptist Church in St. Mary’s and Second Baptist Church in Waycross.
Along with her parents, she also was preceded in death by her first husband, Aca T. Hodges; her second husb and, Pete Godfrey, Sr.; a stepdaughter, Allison Buffington; two grandsons, Wendell Brown and Larry Brown, Jr.; three sisters, Jessie Mae Pittman, Doris Pittman and Ruth Pittman; and one brother, Frank Henderson.
Mrs. Godfrey is survived by one son, Wayne T. Hodges and his wife, Elaine, of Waycross; three stepchildren, Pete Godfrey, Jr., of Kingsland, Gretchen Sumner and her husband, Steve, of Forsyth, Ga., and Bridgett Crews and her husband, Tony O’Neal, of Florida; three grandchildren, Travis Hodges (Dena), Lisa Crawford (Louie) and Daniel Crawford; five step grandchildren, Carla Serfass (Kevin), Keith Brown (Tammy), Judge Charlie Brown (Ginger), Renee Carter (James) and Garrett Godfrey; 19 great grandchildren; numerous great-great grandchildren, one sister, Lowana Holland of Kingsland; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A funeral service was held Saturday, November 30, in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel.
A burial followed in Lawnwood Cemetery in Kingsland.
