Andy Cornelius Young, Sr.

HORTENSE – Andy Cornelius Young, Sr., 69, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2024, surrounded by family at home.

A lifelong resident of Townsend, Young moved to Hortense six months ago. A life well-lived by a faithful servant of God, to enjoy life to its fullest was an understate

All he did was with his whole heart. Young loved his Lord and his family more than anything this world could offer.

Andy (Papa) Young was a proud Bishop/Pastor of the Darien Church of God of Prophecy for 21 years and a plumber for the Glynn County Board of Education for 25 years retiring due to his health in 2016. He celebrated his 69th birthday October 2 in the Brunswick Hospital.

Young was preceded in death by his sons, Andy “Bubba” Young, Jr. and Wayne Young; parents, Ted and Pearl Rowe Young; sister, Faye Mobbs; brother, Terry Young; granddaughter, Brianna Cothren; and son-in-law, Brandon Youmans.

Survivors are his wife of 51 years, Mary Young of Hortense; children, Adam Cothren (Amanda), Dawn Griffin (Dennis), Sharon Ann Owens (Jeremy) and Alvin Young (Terri); aunt, Mary Jane Poppell of Ludowici; grandchildren, Cheltsi Ryals, Kaylee Walls (Damien), Andy Cornelius “A.C.” Young II (Angelina), Mary Youmans, Abigail Youmans, Shaylee Young, Rylee Young, Cooper Jase Owens and Alara Cothren; great-grandchildren, Keltsi Ryals, Prince McIver, Rainlee Walls, Ryker Walls and Brixton Young; closest friends, Teresa Rowe and Esther Rowe.

A funeral service was held October 6 at Townsend Church of God with Bishop Billy Adams, Bishop Hilliard Lane, Pastor Adam Cothren and Pastor Michael Cooper officiating.

Honorary pallbearers were Buddy Stevens, Jessie Stevens, Alvin Young, Jeremy Owens, Michael Cooper, A.C. Young, Damien Walls, Johnny Rowe, Derek Rowe, Brandon Corbin, Chris Smith and Kevin Ryals.
