Twenty years ago, I was working at Hercules in Brunswick. One morning when I slid out of bed, it felt like an icepick was sticking up into my heel.
I didn’t know what it was, but I knew something was not right. I went to the foot doctor in Brunswick and he said that I had a heel spur. He also said he could give me a shot in it and possibly make it go away for a while. I told him to go ahead because I was tired of limping around and this thing was really hurting. The doctor also said he could make some inserts to go into my shoes by making a mold of my feet. I had that done. I remember he pulled a needle out of his shirt pocket that looked very large. He held onto my foot very tight while looking at it on a computer screen.
He told me to get ready because it was going to hurt. He stuck that needle up into my heel and he was not lying!
Once he found the spot he was looking for, he injected what I think was a steroid. It burnt like fire for a little while and then it got better.
About six months later, I went back to him and told him it was doing it again. After looking at my records, he said, “No. This is your other foot!”
I had him do the same thing to the other foot. This time he had trouble finding the spot and had to work the needle back and forth until he found what he was looking.
He then injected the needle. It really hurt this time. I have not had an issue with the heel spurs since then. That is until last week.
Now it appears my right one has decided to rear its ugly head once again. I have been hobbling around on it until I get to go see the doctor Monday.
Hopefully, if he gives me another shot, it will last as long as the other one did. And, I really hope he can hit it with the first try.
