BCHS hoopster sweep Atco for 4-0 starts

CANEY BAY — Brantley County completed a quick season sweep of visiting Atkinson County here Tuesday night to remain unbeaten.

The Lady Herons (4-0) notched a 60-35 home victory in the November 26 doubleheader. The win followed a 6440 decision over the Lady Rebels in Pearson in the November 15 season opener.

The Herons (4-0) followed in the nightcap posting a 57-40 win. BCHS opened the season with a 54-30 road victory over the Rebels.

Brantley County returned to the court Tuesday, December 3 with a date at Appling County to wrap up the season series. BCHS travels to Wayne County Thursday, December 5.

The Lady Herons and Herons go Tuesday, December 10 to Clinch County. Charlton County visits Friday, December 13.

Lady Herons....................60 Atkinson Co. ....................35 Kimora Mincey scored a career- high 16 points leading a trio of double-figure scorers helping the Lady Herons get past Atkinson County.

Mincey added six rebounds, handed out two assists and recorded a steal. Summer Colley (two rebounds, two assist, steal) and Ella Highsmith (team-high nine rebounds and team-leading four steals) added 10 points each.

Brantley County outscored the visitors in every quarter pulling away from an 11-10 first quarter advantage. The Lady Herons tripled up Atco 18-6 in the second period to build a 2916 halftime lead.

BCHS outpointed the Lady Rebels by six points in both the third and fourth quarters. Brantley County used a 14-8 scoring advantage in the third to extend its margin to 43-24 with eight minutes remaining. The Lady Herons finished the game outscoring Atkinson County 1711 in the final frame.

Five other players reached the scoring column for Brantley County. Riana Dennard (three steals) finished with seven points, Ayaniah Davenport (seven rebounds, three steals) netted six points while Rachel Crews (four rebounds, two steals) added five points.

Abbie Lee (three rebounds, two assists) and Tamiyah Coley (steal, rebound) contributed three points and two points respectively. Kirsten Smith finished with three rebounds, two assists and a steal with Julie Carter grabbing two rebounds and recording two steals.

Herons.............................57 Atkinson Co.....................40 Patrick and Tucker O’Quinn combined for a triple-double with 32 points, 13 rebounds and 12 assists leading Brantley County past the Rebels.

Patrick O’Quinn scored a game-high 22 points, grabbed eight rebounds and handed out five assists. Tucker O’Quinn scored 10 points, pulled down five rebounds and dished out a team-leading seven assists.

The Herons built a comfortable first quarter advantage outscoring Atco 16-4. The visitors got back into the game in the second period outscoring Brantley County 16-9 to trail 2720 at the break.

“We jumped out to a big first quarter lead and kind of mentally checked out for the rest of the half,” said head coach Tripp Herrin. “We had too many turnovers in the second quarter as well as a big problem with securing the rebound. We’ve yet to play a complete game. I thought our focus was there in the second half.”

Brantley County righted the ship in the third period outscoring the Rebels 18-7 pushing the margin out to 45-27. Atkinson County could only cut one point off the margin over the final eight minutes outpointing the Herons 13-12.

Carson Jacobs (seven rebounds) followed the O’Quinns with seven points. Courtlon Fuller (team-leading 14 rebounds) netted six points.

Kent Thomas and Cole Courson contributed five points and four points respectively. Jayden Simmons chipped in three points.
